Jan. 31, 2005

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah center/forward Andrew Bogut has been named a John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 30 Candidate following a national poll conducted by the John R. Wooden Award Committee.

Bogut, a 7-foot, 245-pound sophomore from Melbourne, Australia, leads the nation with 14 double-doubles. In the NCAA statistical rankings released on Jan. 25, Bogut was tied for first in rebounds per game (12.2), fourth in field goal percentage (64.7) and 21st in points per game (20.0). Bogut has scored in double figures in all 20 games this season, bringing his double-figure scoring streak to 22 consecutive games dating back to last season. He has also scored at least 20 points 12 times this season.

Utah is 17-3 overall and ranked No. 21 in this week's Associated Press Top 25 Poll.

The Top 30 Candidates have been selected based on individual performance and team records thus far in the 2004-05 season. Players who did not make the list are still eligible for consideration for the National Ballot, which will be released in early March.

On March 29, the 10 player Wooden Award All-American Team will be announced. One member of the Wooden Award All-American Team will be selected on Saturday, April 9, 2005 to receive the Wooden Award Trophy as the nation's "Most Outstanding Collegiate Basketball Player of the Year."
